Hits and Misses

"Hits"
One of my favorite post I created this year was the poem we had to write for our blog posts. I really enjoyed this piece of writing because it was actually very fun to write. This was the post that took me the longest, because of all the details I put into it, just to make it sound better.

So many people view sports as the light of the world,
the big game apparently brings the people together
but are we really together when we are cheering for opposing teams
when we speak hateful words to those in the opposing colors
do they really bring us together?
Riots break out when your favorite team loses
Athletes do drugs
so that they will not let down their fans
by allowing their competitors defeat them
is this really together?

My second "Hit" this year was my personal narrative. On this paper I talked about the last time I went to Disney World with my family. This piece of writing meant a lot to me because of how great of a time the trip was. Also it was fun to write because it reminded me all of the great times we had.

Disney World Trip

My final "Hit" of the year was the blog post I did on my favorite Mardi Gras memory. Even though this was a pretty painful memory, after I felt better it ended up being really funny. This was fun to write about because I got to tell every a cool story, that was funny. Also now that its over I have a very funny story to tell people.

Mardi Gras is one of the biggest holidays in my family. Every year my dad and his family would have a float in a very big parade. One year when I was still about 11 years old my dad made a huge bag with lots of beads, and other stuff. He promised that he would throw it to me once his float passed where I was standing, and he kept that promise and threw it right to me. The problem with that was that I was not looking, so the bag hit me right in the head.
Since the bag was full with heavy beads, it knocked me out. After some lady saw me she decided to not make sure I was okay, or even breathings, she just picked up the bag and walked off. Once my mom made sure I was okay she chased after the other lady and told her to give me back my bag. The lady refused to do so, until we told her that it had my name on the side of it since my dad wrote it. Overall Mardi Gras is one of my favorite Holidays.

"Misses"

My personal least favorite piece of writing this year was my research essay. The main reason this was my least favorite writing is because of how long it took. Even though is definitely the longest time I spent on an essay this year I think it was still my worst. The reason I thought it was hard to write is because I didn't really enjoy what we were writing about.

Research Paper

Another one of my "Misses" this year was my blog post on strategies. This was a very hard topic to write about because I didn't really understand what we needed to write about. Also this was probably my second least enjoyable thing to write.

We are currently reading Purple Hibiscus which is a very challenging book. I am no the greatest reader, and do not like to read very much. Since I am not a good reader I had to find new strategies to get through the book faster. My first idea was to just read aloud instead of silently. This technique actually slowed me down so I had to come up with a new strategy.
The new technique I came up with was to read the material more carefully. This allowed me to not have to reread any sentences which sped my reading up in the long run. This technique helped me understand and finish the book a lot faster. Also this technique allowed me to make better annotations in my book. Overall this technique could help anyone who has trouble reading quick or understanding what they are reading.

The final "Miss" of mine this year was my blog post named "3 Words". The reason I did not like this post is because it seemed very cluttered to me. When I re-read it it sounded very confusing and didn't make much since. Overall I did not like this piece of writing.

Zach Potterman was contending in a race, with 49 other people. It costs 15 dollars for one person to join, and every time someone did the monetary award got higher and higher. The goal of the race was to build the fastest car when pushed down a hill. Zach made a car the perfect size for himself out of wood. Zach decided to implicate metal wheels, because he thought they would make him go faster.
On the final day to prepare for the race he painted his car his favorite colors, purple, yellow, and red. The next day was very exiting for Zach because it was race day. While he was there Zach saw one of his friends from school, and they talked for a while, and before they went separate ways his friend promised that he would beat Zach. Once they finally lined up to go down the hill, everyone got in their car, and then it started. Zach was in second behind his friend, until his friend hit a little bump in the ground which gave Zach the lead. In the final stretch of the race something tragic happened, one of Zach's front wheel fell off, but he still one just because his car was a little longer than his friends.
